3. Historical Development
3.1 Construction Background
In 1996, the Fourth World Geological Congress was held in Beijing, where geological museums from various countries presented a collection of ancient animal fossils to the former Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources of China. To protect and display these treasures, the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources planned to establish a series of specialized branches of the China Geological Museum outside Beijing. The Changzhou Municipal Committee attached great importance to this initiative and, after active application, successfully secured the location for the Ministry's Dinosaur Park Museum in Changzhou.
3.2 Initial Construction
On February 1, 1997, the Changzhou Municipal Committee, the Changzhou Municipal Government, the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources, and the Ministry of Land and Resources signed an agreement to build the China Dinosaur Museum. Based on thorough research, a construction concept for the "Oriental Jurassic, China Dinosaur Land" was born, which applied modern technology to combine museum exhibits with entertainment, and science education with tourism. The groundbreaking ceremony for the China Dinosaur Museum took place on September 20. On September 20, 2000, the theme park centered on dinosaur culture—China Dinosaur Land—opened.
